As a Grass Valley native that now lives in the Bay Area I spend a lot of time regretting my drive on I80. One of those drives put us in traffic on a Sunday not knowing where to eat dinner and when I asked my husband (who normally fumbles the ball when it comes to finding places to eat while we're on route - a story for another day) he picked Good Friends Hawaiian Poke. I have never had bad service in Davis, something about the town breeds nice people and a friendly culture. Good Friends is the epicenter of that friendly culture. With a menu of different pokes - we were asked if we'd like to sample any of the poke before ordering. Despite the offer, we came prepared to order a spicy tuna and triple sashimi sushi burrito to-go. I was not expecting to have so much flavor and texture rapped into one! The fish was fresh, flavors were fun and I really look forward to incorporating Good Friends into my trips between the Bay Area and the Foothills.
Best sushi burritos around (916, 510, 415). One of my favorite stops if I stop in Davis! The kids working there are super friendly and the burritos are huge!! They pack so much poke or soft shell crab in the burritos!! Grab a fork because you will need it...serious...overflowing with poke!!!
Good Friends was the perfect spot to satisfy my cravings for Hawaii. Since I cannot be in tropical paradise at this very moment, I decided to stop by Davis for a bowl of paradise instead. The crew at Good Friends was very friendly and welcoming. I was able to try a few samples of salmon and ahi before making a decision. I decided to go with the traditional salmon and salmon bomb poke bowl with a base of sushi rice and spring mix salad. Both were very fresh, delicious, and packed with flavor. Since I ordered close to closing time, the sushi rice was a bit hard, but the poke bowl was still very yummy. Overall, I was very happy with my first visit to Good Friends! There is also plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Although the restaurant doesn't have its own parking lot, there's plenty of street parking available. I'll definitely be back next time for more poke bowls when I'm in town!
Stopped by this cute little spot in the middle of downtown Davis on our way back to the city and it did not disappoint! The cashiers were super helpful, offering recommendations and free samples of their fish. I've had a lot of poke throughout my life, and their fish is some of the freshest. I landed on the spicy chili salmon with extra spicy mayo which hit just the spot. Toppings can be a la carte or you can select a preset. If you're planning on getting more than four toppings, I'd recommend getting a preset selection to save money. The wonton chips were crispy and light - loved these. There was enough food for me to enjoy for two meals! Would highly recommend this spot!
Honestly the best poke bowl you can get. The only thing is I wish they had smaller sizes. This thing is absolutely massive. I will get it Delilah style til I die.
